This brief summary is meant to serve as a helpful point of contact with some of the more basic issues we address as a congregation. As this is quite limited, feel free to ask about any topic of interest to you.
Salvation and the Bible
We believe that the Bible is God’s inspired Word, which He uses to bring about a transformed life as we put our faith in its teachings and obey its instructions. Out of God’s love he sent His Son Jesus to die in place of sinful mankind to rescue mankind from eternal destruction away from God’s presence. Having redeemed us, He desires to work through us to bring about the purposes of His Kingdom and afterward take us to heaven to live eternally with Him.
The Church
We believe in the unity of all believers and churches who proclaim Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and who maintain basic Bible beliefs. Individual congregations are local expressions of the larger church fulfilling God’s plan in their region. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by proclaiming the Good News of His Kingdom and making more and better disciples.
The Role of Each Believer
We believe that all believers have the privilege and responsibility to seek God for themselves and that Jesus is the only mediator between God and mankind. Each of us will give an account to Him for our lives. In addition, each believer has been gifted by the Holy Spirit to minister to others in effective and meaningful ways. A primary responsibility of leadership is to equip and encourage all members to fulfill their ministry. In this way, the church comes to spiritual maturity and the work of the Kingdom of God is accomplished.
Local Church Government
Our primary leadership team consists of a group of elders. These men function as shepherds, caring for the needs of the local church and providing leadership and vision. All major decisions are made on the basis of unanimous agreement of the elders. Also, other leaders along with the entire congregation are encouraged to provide input to the elders. The elders desire to reflect Christ’s leadership in the church by submitting to His will, demonstrating His character, and being examples of God’s people. Additionally many others fulfill leadership roles and responsibilities in the local church.
The Family
We believe the family is the basic unit of society, being the first of all human institutions created by God. We strongly support the father’s role in the home as spiritual leader and servant of all. While we provide classes and ministries for children and youth, we believe the responsibility for instruction rests on the home. The church serves to complement the home and provide significant adult relationships for youth as they prepare for adult life. We have also sought to assist single-parent families by involving other mature adults as role models.
