Zion Chapel was birthed out of the ‘60s Charismatic Renewal/Jesus People Movement. In 1967, God poured out His Spirit on a number of college students, resulting in many becoming Christians and being filled with the Holy Spirit. As the group grew, it became evident that God was planting a new local church in Goshen. In 1971, Zion Chapel was founded with Vic Hildebrand as pastor.
Our first long-term missionaries were sent out in 1975. Foreign missions continue to define our congregation as short-term teams and long-term missionaries serve in various countries. Over the years, we have chosen to focus our energies primarily on Mozambique, China, Cuba, and Germany where we have had significant relationship and investment of resources.
Steve Chupp became pastor in 1979, and Vic eventually moved to Michigan to plant another church. After meeting in various rented locations, we built our current facility in 1984, followed by several significant additions. In recent years, DownTown@8:08 and The Post were started as outreaches of our congregation.
